Hi Everyone ,

I'm sitting here (it's the 12th of September) and thinking I'm crazy as I just put out the October issue on the 7th of September. On the 8th inst., I started working on the issues for November, December and January. 

(3 brownie points to who ever figures that one out).

It's almost November and time for Thanksgiving. Their were 10 issues in this series of  volume 1. Since I started volume 1 in December 1998  I'll have to start volume 2 next month.

I'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all who have sent in data & items for the site & the newsletter over the past months.

Subject: Mother passing away

Dan,

I wanted to let you know my mother, Dorothy Imogene Keeney, died on June 19, 1999, from complications related to leukemia. This past year has been very difficult. Would you add this to your database? I see that you have continued to update your website. It looks great! I think I'll have time to get back into research now. I did send data and pictures to be included in Patricia Foulke Kaufman's new edition. I can't wait to see it.

-- no one would be allowed to move without registering.
-- all war would be outlawed -- it destroys records.
-- no one would be allowed to change religion -- it confuses us.
-- everyone would have to be baptised -- we need all the hints we can  get.
-- tombstones would be manditory.
-- destroying tombstones would be a capital crime.
-- all events of note would be recorded in newspapers.
-- you would not be allowed to change your name, unless it was too common, then you'd be required to.
-- following Scottish naming patterns for children would be the law.
-- the FBI would be engaged in genealogical work as its top priority.

THE ELUSIVE ANCESTOR

I went searching for an ancestor. I cannot find him still.
He moved around from place to place and did not leave a will.
He married where a courthouse burned. He mended all his fences.
He avoided any man who came to take the U.S. Census.

He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame.
And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name.
His parents came from Europe. They should be upon some list
of passengers to U.S.A., but somehow they got missed.

And no one else in this world is searching for this man.
So, I play geneasolitaire to find him if I can.
I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed;
but the weather took engraving, and some vandals took the rest.

He died before the county clerks decided to keep records.
No Family Bible has emerged, in spite of all my efforts.
To top it off this ancestor, who caused me many groans,
Just to give me one more pain, betrothed a girl named JONES.

I'm looking for information on the parents of William KEENEY b. about 1587, possibly in Scotland. marr. Anne DOUGLAS. They had a son William who was to have emigrated to the U.S.

My Great Grandparents, Benjamin Kessler - Martha Elizabeth Randleman Keeney had the Irish humor when they named their children. They were named alphabetically and this poem was used to remember their names.

Alfred Bertin, Carrie Dell, Ernest Farmer, all is well, George Harvey, Ira James Keeney, Levi Martin, these are our names, Nina Ona, Pearly Q, that is enough, now won't that do?

Now guess who I was named after?

I know it a little bit differently.  It goes like this:   

The Keeney Children's ABC song

Alfred Berten, Carrie Dell, Earnest Farmer fell in the well, George Harvey, Ira James, Levi Martin, that's our names. Nina Ona, Pearlie Q. That's our names and won't that do?

It's on the same lines as Gary's.  This came from the "Martin Christopher Randleman, His kin and Heirs 1754-1964" book from Billie Snead Webb.  Who knows which is correct?
